School counselors ask students who wish to take a class at ACE or the TTECH that is currently full to please add themselves to the waitlist. If a slot opens, students will be notified and then they would be able to meet with their school counselor to have their schedule adjusted. 

Tooele High School offers many CTE Pathways for students to explore. To earn a CTE Pathway, students must complete a total of 3.0 credits in that area, including at least one concentrator class. Students can be recognized at graduation for completing a CTE Pathway.

Can a student become a peer tutor?

Yes, students at Tooele High School are eligible to become a peer tutor once they reach the 10th grade. Students must have good attendance and be in good standing with their academics in meeting their graduation requirements and be free of having any behavior infractions on school records. Students are required to be complete the online Peer Tutor application, which consists of submitting their name, student lunch number, school e-mail address, current GPA, current number of credits earned, name of the school, a teacher e-mail address that would recommend the student, and their school counselor's e-mail address. The Peer Tutor application will be approved or denied by a school administrator. 

Can a student become a teacher’s aide?

Yes, students at Tooele High School are eligible to become a teacher’s aide once they reach the 11^th or 12^th grade. Students must have good attendance and be in good standing with their academics in meeting their graduation requirements to be eligible. Students have the option to be a Teacher’s Aide (TA), Counselors Aide, Office Aide, Attendance Aide, or a Library aide once they reach the 11^th or 12^th grade.

Important Information:

• Students must get the TA permission slip for this. Students will need write down their name, student lunch number, andget signatures from their teacher and parents to become teacher’s aide.
• Students will need to bring the form with required signatures to their school counselor. Only school counselors are the only officials who have access to add Teacher Aide in students’ schedules. Students DO NOT have access to add Teacher Aide or Office Aide on their schedule during Arena Scheduling.
• Students are not allowed to TA for a teacher during their prep period. School counselors have asked students to check with the Master Schedule to make sure that the period that they request to be TA for does not contradict with a teacher's prep period.
• Students need to turn in their TA permission slip to the counseling office during the time frame Arena Scheduling is open in April.

A student may qualify for a Release to Parent if they meet one of the following criteria:

• Students might request to take an online class in place of taking it at school. Students will be expected to be working on the course during that class period at home, just as they would in school. Students will be expected to complete the online course sections on time each quarter to be on track with receiving credits for graduation as the rest of peers.
• Students who are taking 2 or more AP (Advanced Placement) or CE (Concurrent Enrollment) classes and need the extra time to study could request Parent Release. Students must be on track with their credits for graduation and must verify with their school counselor if they are qualified to have Parent Release.
• Students who are seniors and who DO NOT need a full schedule are eligible to qualify for Parent Release if they are on track with their credits for graduation and DO NOT have credit recovery pending to be completed.

Important Information Regarding Parent Release:

• No credit is awarded to students for a Release to Parent period.
• For safety and liability concerns, students MUST be OFF CAMPUS during Release to Parent periods.
• Students must complete the Release to Parent Request Form, have a parent sign this form with their contact information, and submit the form to their school counselor during the time frame that Arena Scheduling is open in April. The school counselor will verify parental consent and approve Parent Release by signing the form. 
• Students DO NOT have access to add Parent Release on their schedule during Arena Scheduling. School counselors are the only officials that have access to add Parent Release on students’ schedules.

What is Seminary (Release Time)?

• Seminary is a religion class provided by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where high school students can join for a study of the Holy Bible, the Book of Mormon, and Doctrine and Covenants. Any student is invited to attend regardless of religious belief or affiliation.

The following are important information for students and parents:

• The Church has asked for students to register with directly with the church, this process grants parent permission and resolves contact information errors.

• When registering with the church it DOES NOT put seminary on the student’s schedule at the high school. Students will need to meet with or request of their school counselor to add in “Release Time” to their high school schedule on their preferred period to have Seminary in their schedule to complete the enrollment process.
• Seminary is NOT offered during 9^th period for any student. This is the seminary institute prep hour.
• Seminary DOES NOT offer students any high school credits. If students have seminary on their schedule, they will be earning 9 credits per school year, not 10 credits per school year. 

Instructions How to Enroll in Seminary:

1. Students will need to get an official church account, username, and password. Students will need to speak with their ward membership clerk for assistance.
2. Students will need to choose which format of Myseminary they want to use. There are two options.

3. Students will need to enroll in “Release Seminary” on their high school schedule.

Schedule Change Request Process:

Students requesting a schedule change will need to submit the application below, which will include submitting their information, their parents', and their school counselor's information. A school administrator will approve or deny your request. If approved, students will need to notify and meet with their school counselor to adjust their schedule. 

Schedule Change Request Deadlines:

• School Counselors want to remind students and parents that schedule changes can only be approved prior to the start of the school year.
• If there is an unusual circumstances during the school year where a student need to request a schedule change, it can only occur prior to the start of the new term or during the first week of the term.
• Students are responsible to be aware of and remember the deadlines for schedule change requests. 

The following below are approved reasons that are listed on the application for students to request a schedule change during the designated timeframe for a schedule change request:

• Change in course level (Moving from an AP/Concurrent Enrollment/Extended/Honors to a regular general ed or vice versa)
• Course was taken online and is no longer needed in the student's schedule
• CTE course is needed to complete a Pathway
• DLI schedule conflict or English Language Development (ELD) placement
• Drop a class to add in a Parent Release period
• Incomplete schedules
• Made a tryout team/class and need to add it to my schedule
• Medical or special education need
• Missing CORE graduation requirements
• Need to add a credit recovery class
• Need to add Release Time (Seminary)
• Passing an AP test satisfies the prerequisite for a different class I want to add
• Switch to a class without a fee

Schedule Change Request

Four-Year Plan Sample for General Education Students:

Disclosure: Students are able to take honor-level coursework at any time they feel that they are academically proficient in that area such as Pre-AP Language Arts (Honors), Extended Math (Honors), Advanced Placement (AP) Core, and Concurrent Enrollment (CE) courses. There are no pre-requisites for taking Pre-AP Language Arts, Extended Math, or an Advanced Placement (AP) course.

• If a student has gotten straight As in English in middle school or their Freshmen year, school counselors recommend for the students to try Pre-AP Language Arts their Sophomore year.
• If a student is interested in taking a CE course, they must meet the 3.0 GPA requirement.
• CE English and Math is only available to students their Senior year.
• CE Math requires completion of Math 1-3 with a C or better and have a specific score on the ACT exam that students take their junior year.
• If your student is interested planning for CE courses in the future, school counselors highly recommend that they develop a strong academic foundation in their early years of high school to meet the GPA requirement. 

Four Year-Plan Sample for Honor Bound Students:

Disclosure: There are no pre-requisites for taking Pre-AP Language Arts, Extended Math, or an Advanced Placement (AP) course. Concurrent Enrollment (CE) courses require students to have a 3.0 GPA. Students will need to prepare themselves well academically their freshmen and sophomore year prior to being eligible to take CE courses. CE English and Math courses are only available to students their senior year. CE Math requires completion of Math 1-3, and have a specific passing score on their ACT Math portion to be eligible for the Math CE class.

Graduation Recognitions:

• Tooele High School offers an Honor Diploma to students for graduation who have completed a total of 12 credits of honor-level courses, accumulated 10 hours of community service, and completed the Honors Diploma application in their senior year by the designated deadline. If interested, discuss this with your school counselor during your annual College and Career Readiness (CCR) meeting.
• Students can work towards meeting the requirements for the USU General Certificate. If interested, discuss this with your school counselor during your annual CCR meeting.
• Students can work towards meeting the requirements for the Opportunity and First Credential Scholarships, which just requires students to take some specific AP and CE courses in high school. If interested, discuss this with your school counselor during your annual CCR meeting.

Arena Scheduling for students will be built through Skyward for the new 2026-2027 school year. A copy of this presentation that was presented to students in the classroom is linked above in English and in Spanish for viewers to see.

What is Arena Scheduling?

Students get to build their own schedule for the upcoming school year in Skyward.

Students can select the teachers and the class periods that the designated class periods they want their classes to be in. 

When students build their schedule, school counselors ask that they take note of the following:

• Students need to be sure that they have included required core classes on their schedule that they need to meet graduation requirements. 
• Students need to make sure that they have met any pre-requisites for classes that they have signed up for. 
• Students cannot leave any holes (gaps) on their schedule. Every single class period must be filled with a class. 

Important to Note: Since students are the ones building their own schedule, there will NOT be schedule changes in the fall once school starts. They will need to take it seriously when building their own schedule.

How can students know what classes they need for graduation?

Students will need to complete the following steps:

1. Log into Skyward
   • Incoming freshmen students that are coming from a charter school need to click on the Arena for Charter Students linked above to be able to access Skyward.
2. Click on Graduation Requirements

The Arena Scheduling presentation that is linked above shows a visual of what students will see when they click on Graduation Requirements in Skyward. The example shows students that 34 credits are required for graduation, and which categories those 34 credits include.

Students will be able to see how many credits are required in each category, how many credits have already been completed, how many credits are in progress, how many credits remain in a certain category, and the status of all their categories required for graduation. The status will always indicate “Complete” or “In Progress.”

The example in the presentation shows a student sample of their Graduation Requirements. This sample shows that the student has completed 4.5 credits so far and that the student has 4.5 credits in progress.

School Counselors ask students to take note of the following:

• Students will see a “Completed” status on their account if the course is in their current schedule, even if they have not finished the class yet.
• If a student fails a term of a class that they are taking, that will change to say “In Progress” again.
• If a student clicks on “View Courses,” they can see the classes that count toward that category. School counselors ask for students to remain vigilant on the Graduation Requirements page in Skyward and notify their school counselor if they happen to see any errors that need to be corrected.

How can students know which classes to take each year?

• Students are asked to complete the "Preparing for Arena Scheduling" Google Form that is linked on the presentation. 
• Students are advised by their school counselor to refer to their high school coursework plan that they created with their school counselor during their College and Career Readiness (CCR) meeting. 

What are other things students need to consider when selecting classes?

 What about class fees?

Starting with the 2026-2027 school year, the Utah Legislature requires that each school have a Fee-Free Path to Graduation (Utah Code § 53G-7-502). This means there are enough classes without fees that students could get all the credits they need to graduate without paying a class fee. How can students know if a class has a fee, and if it does, how much is it?

• The course listings forms and the course catalog will indicate the classes that have fees.
• If a class has a fee, students can check to see how much it is by clicking here: District Fee Schedule.

Disclosure: This is the 2025-2026 fee schedule. Final board approval of the fees for the coming school year is currently pending as it does not take place until June 1st, therefore there might be some changes.

• Since students are not allowed to leave holes in their schedule during Arena Scheduling, school counselors ask of students who believe that they will make a Tryout and/or Teacher Approval class to NOT put a graduation requirement class in that same class period where the Tryout and/or Teacher Approval class will be offered.
• School counselors have asked students instead to insert an elective that they would be receptive to taking in case they do not get qualified for their Tryout and/or Teacher Approval class.
• If a student qualifies for the Tryout and/or Teacher Approval class, their school counselor will drop their tentative elective that they have placed on their schedule to add in their Tryout and/or Teacher Approval class.

Tooele High School has some of the Tryout classes applications on this page Scheduling page of the counseling website. School counselors have encourage students to apply if they are interested in participating in those Tryout classes for the new school year.

There might be special circumstances that might arise. The following are two main identified special circumstances that occur among students:

• I have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
  • Students who have an IEP, their case manager, have determined which classes are required to align with their IEP accommodations. Those classes will already be in students’ schedules when they enter Arena.
  • Students will be able to pick classes to fill the remaining periods.
  • School counselors have encouraged students to notify them if they need their IEP classes to be moved to a different period since they will not have access to move the IEP classes themselves.
• I am coming from a charter school where I am taking Math 1 as an 8^th grader, so I qualified to go into Math 2 as a freshman.
  • School counselors have asked students to look at the Master Schedule to determine which period they would like it to be.
  • School counselors have informed students that they will need to contact Tooele High School or e-mail their high school counselor to notify them where they would like the Math 2 class to be placed in their Arena Schedule.
  • Students DO NOT have access to insert a class on their Arena Schedule that was designed for upperclassmen students. School counselors are the only officials that can insert a class on students’ Arena Schedules that was designed for upperclassmen students.

• School counselors recommend for students to refer to the college and career readiness coursework plan they created with their school counselor at their CCR meeting. This document will be useful for Arena Scheduling.
• Students can find their CCR form from their school counselor through their Outlook E-mail or in their "Shared with Me" Google Drive by typing in their school counselor's e-mail address.
• School counselors direct students to look at the Master Schedule. This will tell them what each teacher will be teaching every period of the day.
  • The Master Schedule is subject to change. School counselors will notify students and parents if their schedule gets impacted by changes to the Master Schedule.
• School counselors ask students to use this worksheet to put together their ideal schedule. In addition, school counselors ask students to create backup plans A and B in case they do not get their first choices during Arena Scheduling.
• Students will be able to create their schedule for the new school year when the Arena Scheduling Window opens.

To access Arena Scheduling in Skyward, we ask students to complete the following steps:

Step 1: School counselors direct students to log into their own student (NOT their parent’s) Skyward account. Students will only have access to Arena Scheduling through their STUDENT account. Parents do not have access to Arena Scheduling on their accounts. 

Step 2: Click on Arena Scheduling located on the left blue column, then click on 2026-27.

• The term Fit on this chart is an indicator that shows students if the class will fit in their schedule. If students already have a class scheduled for that period, it will say No.
• The term Trm on this chart is an indicator that shows students if it is a 1st semester, 2nd semester, or a year-long class.
• The term Grades on this chart is an indicator that shows students that they will only be able to see classes open to their grade level.
• The term P on this chart is an indicator that shows students that this class has a pre-requisite.
• The term Prd on this chart is an indicator that shows students which period this class is offered.
• School counselors have asked students to take notice that they will not have the "Add" Column until Arena Scheduling goes live.

1. For students to add their Language Arts class, they can search using the Subject box and then click "Apply Filter."
2. Students can now see the Language Arts options for their grade level.

3. When students find the class they want, as long as it will fit with their schedule and there are still seats available, they can click "Add."

• Remember: Students will only have the “Add” column while the Arena Scheduling window is open.
• Note: If students ever happen to see two teachers are listed, that means it is a co-taught class, where they will have two teachers assigned to that class. 

On the last visual, school counselors explained the following to students:

4. If the class has a co-requisite, students will be prompted to add the other half. In this example, Language Arts 10 Semester 1 only provides half of the needed Language Arts 10 credit. Students must be sure to also add the 2nd semester of it to get the full credit for graduation.

• While the Arena Scheduling window is open, students can make changes to anything they have added. Just click on the link. Each class under View/Print Schedule is hyperlinked. 

On the last visual, school counselors explained the following to students:

• To remove a class, students must click on View/Print Schedule, click on the designated class that they wish to remove.
• A pop-up will ask if the is student sure that they want to remove the class from their schedule. If they select Yes, then the class goes back into the Arena Scheduling pool, and it would be free for any other students to pick-up that class.
• School counselors have informed students that if they drop a class that it could be a possibility if they change their mind and would like to add the class back into their schedule that they might not be able it back if seats are full. 

School counselors reviewed three main things that they want students to remember from the three notepad visuals provided on this slide. 

On the first visual, school counselors asked students to remember the following:

• Students must make sure that they have met all the pre-requisites! If they are not sure if the class has any pre-requisites, they need to refer back to the Course Description Catalog. 

On the second visual, school counselors asked students to remember the following:

• If a class is full when students first try to add it, to keep checking back. 
• Many students will be making changes in Arena Scheduling. A spot might open up!

On the last visual, school counselors asked students to remember the following:

• Do not forget about ACE and TTECH classes!
• If a class is full, students can add themselves to the waitlist.

  • If a spot opens up, the student will be contacted by the ACE or TTECH to be notified, and then students are able to meet with their school counselor to adjust their schedule at that time. 

School counselors reviewed additional important things that they want students to remember:

• In general, as long as students DO NOT leave holes in their schedule, have accounted for all core class graduation requirements, and have met all needed pre-requisites (for classes that have them), the schedule that they built will be the one that they end up with!
• However, with fluid enrollment numbers due to out-of-boundary requests and unforeseen changes to school staff, there may be changes to the master schedule before the school year starts. If a change affects one of students' classes, students may be contacted about it.
• There will NOT be schedule changes in the fall, so students need to take this seriously and be sure to complete their schedule.
• DO NOT put core classes in a period where students hope to join a Tryout class.

This reminder applies to Sophomores to Seniors only:

• If students need Credit Recovery, remember to add it to your schedule.
• If students have 1-4 terms to make-up on Edgenuity, add only 1 Credit Recovery class.
• If students have 4+ terms to make up add one Credit Recovery class per semester.
